GIACOBBE FRAGOMENI BIOGRAPHY :
Giacobbe Fragomeni (born August 13, 1969) is an Italian former boxer who won the 2008 WBC World Heavyweight Championship. On January 1, 2001, he became a professional boxer. In August of the same year he injured his biceps and was forced to stop for almost a year. After winning the Mediterranean title and the international title in the WBC acronym, on November 11, 2007, under the technical guidance of Patrizio Oliva, he got the chance to challenge British boxer David Haye for the EBU European light heavyweight title, but was defeated in the ninth round, in a bout he had largely dominated until then. After winning and defending the European Union title, on October 24, 2008 at the Palalido in Milan he won the title of WBC world champion in the light heavyweight category for the first time, beating czech boxer Rudolf Kraj on points. In December of the same year he received, from the then mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti, the Ambrogino d’oro for his testimony of life. In addition to sporting merits, in fact, the Italian champion was also recognized for his commitment to building a gym at the Stadera, the neighborhood where he grew up. On May 16, 2009, he won his first title defense at the Gran Teatro in Rome, tied on points in a match with Polish boxer Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and bringing his personal best to 26-1-1 with 10 k.o. On November 22, 2009, he was defeated on points by Hungarian boxer Zsolt Erdei in Kiel, losing the title. On March 12, 2012, for the world belt “silver” WBC version of the light heavyweights, he faced the Italian Silvio Branco and at the end of the twelve rounds the match was judged with a tie result. On the eve of the repetition of the match Branco, provocatively, bought the WBC version light heavyweight belt – a regular practice and possible by contacting the WBC directly – and published on his Facebook profile the photos wearing Fragomeni’s belt. On December 15, 2012, in Riva del Garda, the two played the chance to play the World Cup. The match was the first in the history of boxing at the end of which the verdict was not read for reasons of public order. On December 17, 2012 Fragomeni was announced as the winner by the World Boxing Council, with no indication of the scores. The Branco team appealed. On December 7, 2013, as an official challenger, Fragomeni faced World Champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk. The fight took place at the UIC in Pavillon, Chicago. The Milanese boxer was accompanied by Maurizio Zennoni and his attorney Salvatore Cherchi. During the fourth shot Fragomeni was knocked out by a left-footed Wlodarczyk. At the end of the sixth shooting, the medical staff was sent to the Italian corner to express themselves on the severity of a wound on Fragomeni’s left cheekbone, and the Italian boxer declared abandonment. On October 24, 2014, he returned to the ring, trying to pull the European belt off to Russian champion Rakhim Chakhkiev, but was knocked out during the 4th round. After a break also due to the participation in the Island of the Famous, he officially returned to the ring on January 14, 2017, on the occasion of the event “The Night of Kick and Punch 6”, staged at the Teatro della Luna. It took only three takes to get rid of “Psyco” Tamas Polster. In December of the same year, at the age of 47, he finally hung up his gloves.
