Originally broadcast by RAI in eight episodes between December 1964 and February 1965, the series became one of the most memorable productions of Italian television of the period. Rita Pavone’s energetic portrayal of the mischievous Gian Burrasca became closely associated with the character, while the series also introduced the hugely popular song “Viva la pappa col pomodoro”, with music by Nino Rota.
