Urs Althaus (born February 25, 1956, in Herrliberg, Switzerland) is a Swiss actor, former fashion model, and entrepreneur. Of Swiss and Nigerian descent, he grew up in Switzerland and initially pursued a career in football before an injury led him to change direction. In the late 1970s, Althaus achieved international recognition as a fashion model, becoming one of the most prominent male models of his generation. He made history as the first Black man to appear on the cover of the American edition of GQ magazine and worked with leading fashion houses and designers, including Calvin Klein, Valentino, Armani, and Yves Saint Laurent. He later transitioned into acting, studying in both New York and Rome. Althaus is best known in Italy for his iconic role as the Brazilian striker Aristoteles in the cult football comedy film L’allenatore nel pallone (1984), alongside Lino Banfi. He also appeared in several other Italian and international productions, including Arrapaho (1984) and The Name of the Rose (1986). In addition to his work in film and fashion, Althaus is the author of an autobiographical book recounting his life experiences between modeling, cinema, and personal identity. He has remained a well known figure in Italy, where his most famous role continues to enjoy lasting popularity among audiences.
