🇬🇧 50 Years Later: The Rawlins Children Reunite for Charity
Fifty years have passed since that distant 1971, when Bedknobs and Broomsticks was first projected in American cinemas. The beloved Disney classic received five Academy Award nominations, winning the Oscar for Best Special Visual Effects.
The film holds a special place in cinematic history. It was the last Disney release before the passing of Roy O. Disney, Walt Disney’s surviving brother, who died just one week later. It also marked the final theatrical appearance of actor Reginald Owen, who passed away in 1972 after two more television credits.
The roles of the Rawlins children — Charlie, Carrie, and Paul — were played by Ian Weighill, Cindy O’Callaghan, and Roy Snart. Each child came to the project through different paths: Ian had previously appeared uncredited in David Copperfield (1969); Cindy was discovered through school auditions and impressed casting directors with a funny story about her brothers; and Roy was selected for his “impish, cheeky look” after appearing in several commercials.
Now, in 2020, and for the first time in 50 years, the three original actors have reunited exclusively for History Life Onlus and decided to support our mission by signing a limited set of photographs. These items will be auctioned on Signed For Charity to help raise funds for our 2021 scholarships, supporting deserving children facing economic hardship.

🇮🇹 A 50 anni dall’uscita: i piccoli protagonisti si riuniscono per la solidarietà
Sono trascorsi cinquant’anni da quel lontano 1971, quando Pomi d’ottone e manici di scopa fece il suo debutto nei cinema americani. Il celebre film Disney ricevette cinque candidature agli Oscar, vincendone uno per i Migliori Effetti Speciali Visivi.
Si tratta di un’opera dal valore storico particolare: fu l’ultimo film distribuito prima della scomparsa di Roy O. Disney, fratello di Walt, morto una settimana dopo. Inoltre, rappresentò l’ultima apparizione cinematografica dell’attore Reginald Owen, che si spense l’anno successivo dopo due ruoli televisivi.
I tre fratellini Rawlins — Charlie, Carrie e Paul — furono interpretati rispettivamente da Ian Weighill, Cindy O’Callaghan e Roy Snart. Ian iniziò la carriera in un ruolo non accreditato in David Copperfield (1969); Cindy fu selezionata dopo un’audizione scolastica in cui raccontò un aneddoto divertente; Roy fu scelto per il suo sguardo furbo e vivace dopo varie pubblicità televisive.
Oggi, nel 2020, in esclusiva per History Life Onlus, i tre attori si sono riuniti per la prima volta dopo 50 anni e hanno deciso di sostenere la nostra associazione firmando una serie limitata di fotografie. Il ricavato delle relative aste benefiche finanzierà le borse di studio 2021 destinate a bambini meritevoli in condizioni economiche difficili.
Un grazie sincero a Ian, Cindy e Roy per questo gesto di grande valore simbolico e umano. Da un film senza tempo a un aiuto concreto per il futuro: la magia continua.
